“With this S3 service, we offer a fully European alternative that delivers the same hyperscalers’ flexibility, while giving organisations maximum control over their data and costs. This is a logical next step in our evolution as an independent cloud infrastructure provider."

Worldstream is a Dutch cloud infrastructure provider with more than 20 years of experience designing, building, and managing IT infrastructure. Operating its own data centres and high-performance network across the Netherlands, the company has developed deep expertise across object, file, and block storage.

As organisations across Europe increasingly reassess their dependency on hyperscalers, driven by concerns around data sovereignty, geopolitical risk, and unpredictable costs, Worldstream saw a clear opportunity to respond with a fully European alternative built entirely on its own strategic assets.

Challenge

Worldstream needed to meet growing demand among enterprises for S3-compatible cloud storage that is fully European, independent of hyperscalers, and aligned with data sovereignty and compliance requirements, including GDPR and NIS2.

Public cloud storage had been widely adopted across the Netherlands, but it increasingly raised concerns around geopolitical risk, data control, and unpredictable fees. On-premises object storage ensured control, but came with high costs, inflexibility, and operational complexity, requiring significant IT resources.

To deliver a premium, highly scalable service with price-competitive economics, Worldstream needed a solution that could run seamlessly on its own bare-metal infrastructure and high-performance network, without lock-in.

Solution

To address these requirements, Worldstream deployed DS3 Composer, Cubbit's software-defined object storage, across its three data centres in the Netherlands, creating its own S3 cloud storage service fully hosted and operated in-country.

With DS3 Composer, Worldstream can deliver flexible service tiers from a single intuitive admin console, adapting SLAs and pricing to different workload requirements. Data is encrypted, fragmented, and replicated across multiple locations, so it is never exposed in full and remains always accessible, supporting customers' compliance posture under GDPR and NIS2.

The solution runs on Worldstream's own bare-metal infrastructure and high-performance network, combining the resilience and efficiency of Cubbit's geo-distributed architecture with Worldstream's in-country operational expertise. The initial capacity is 1 petabyte, with further expansion planned in the coming years.

Result

With Cubbit, Worldstream has launched a 100% sovereign S3 storage offering for enterprises, combining national data sovereignty, high resilience, flexible service tiers, and predictable economics, fully hosted and operated in the Netherlands, entirely independent of hyperscaler services.

The service supports key use cases including backup, active archiving, and content delivery. Worldstream backs the offering with 24/7 customer support through its professional service desk, with a proven seven-minute response time, ensuring continuous availability and reliable technical assistance for every customer.

This partnership marks Cubbit's first Business Alliance Partner in the Netherlands, bringing geo-distributed, fully sovereign storage built on 100% European technology to enterprises across sectors.
